Looking for John Halpin born in Castletown Delon Westmeath Ireland
I have been trying for some time to find any information on my grand father John Halpin. I have a marriage certificate for his marriage to Mary Darcy in Maryborough Queensland Australia. The date of marriage was 28th August 1875. He was 34 at the time and Mary was 29. Mary was from Stonefield Claire Ireland. John's parents were John Halpin and Margaret Clomin. Mary's parentw were Michael Darcy and Mary Griffin. I have been able to find John Halpin names in America but none that seem to match.

Was his mother's name Margaret Clomin or Margaret McInnes? and was your father Joseph James Halpin who died in 1955
My father was Joseph James Halpin born in Warwick in 1877 and dying in Bundaberg in 1955. On the copy of the marriage certificate that I have his mother's name appears to be Margaret Clomin.
Margaret Clomin was John Halpin's not Joseph James' mother.
Hi,
Maybe your John Halpin.
Queensland Police Gazette 1887 22nd March 1887.

This seems to bear out what I have thought for some time. My father never spoke of his family. I had recently come to the conclusion that John abandoned his wife. It looks like a starting point. All I have to do now is work out where I go from here.
Further thoughts. My grandfather John Halpin married Mary Darcy in Maryborough on the 28th August 1875. My father, Joseph James Halpin was born in Warrick on 23rd March 1877. Itis therefore possible that the John Halpin that left Maryborough in January 1876 was in fact the father of grandfather John Halpin. Great grandfather was also named John Halpin. I am becoming more and more confused.
I double checked the 1887 Police Gazette Notice and it does say that John Halpin left Maryborough in 1876. I see also that there was a John Halpin in Far North Queensland around the same period.
