Hi Delia,
Commercial & Trades Directory SA 1882-83
Emrose, Joseph, goldsmith, Union-st,Stepney.
The West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide has the burial for.
Joseph Emrose born 1833, d 25th Sept 1896, m 23 June 1862 Augusta Maria Hermel, s/o David Emrose.
and
Augusta Maria Wilheim Emrose, b. 1839, d. 17 Dec 1907, w/o Joseph Emrose.
There is a fair amount of good information on Joseph Emrose in the digitised newspapers which can be found at http://www.trove.nla.gov.au try different searches eg, search under Joseph Emrose or "Joseph Emrose" then pick the newspaper.
There is a nice article from the Advertiser 26th September 1896 after his death, it tells a story about Joseph originally from Boston USA. He left a wife, 3 sons, 4 daughters & 5 grand children.
Regards
Gerry
Thanks Gerry.
I looked on the site and found heaps of information. I had already found out a bit about his family on trove in the past, but somehow missed these articles.
I have been trying to find where Joseph came from but now I can start looking in America for records.
The name Emrose hardly rates a mention on familysearch.org. They offer Imrie, Imry or many variations including Ambrose.
On the wedding certificate it states his father as David Emrose, so I guess my next step is finding him.
konce again, many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Even on Ancestry & World Vital Records there isn't much re the Emrose name and I can't see a James or Joseph. It looks like Joseph was born around 1833 and had been in SA for 40 - 50 years, wonder if he came out with the American Whaling ships at that time.

I knew there was a reason I should have been more interested in history while I was at school.
I didn't even know there were American Whaling ships working in Australia.
Not sure where to access this information, but I did try a website that had travellers leaving Boston for elsewhere but he wasn't there. Not surprised as i don't believe Emrose was a real name. However by googling the name there are still Emrose's still in south Australia.
