My grandmother, Nora Bell Vance Kuhn was born outside of marriage in 1905 (about then anyway). Her mother died in childbirth, or shortly there after. All I know about her mother is her last name was Porter. She may have lived in the Buffalo Creek area. When her mother died, her father, Benjamine Vance from the Wharton area of Boone County, WV. claimed her and he and his brothers raised her. She was very ashamed of being born out of wedlock and would never discuss anything about herself. I really do not know if she even knew much about her mother and her moother's family. This is our big family mystery and I cannot advance that part of my family past my grandmother. Please, if anyone can help it would be most appreciated! J Richards
