Hello NgaiNgai

The Cyclopedia of New Zealand has Charles Limpus as being born in Liverpool 1831 and arriving in Auckland, via Melbourne,in 1857. He married Maria Burgess in 1854. They farmed at Patangata, Waipawa, Hawkes Bay. A Journal of LIMPUS marriages has been published in Family Tree Circles by Ngairedith.

Thank You barbiedoll, for your info. I actually have quite some info re family as mum[Ethel] had a lot to do with Aunts etc. And I remember Aunt Louisa quite well. This is the Limpus family I am talking of. Really trying to find other Limpus family members.

I am a descendant of
Thomas George Limpus and Fanny nee Ellingham. TGL is the first born of Charles and Maria and was born in England in 1856. NgaiNgai, would really like to know more about the family. I changed my name by deed poll after my divorce to Limpus. There seems to be a difference of the birth year of Charles Limpus. i have it as 1831 and 1833. Unfortunately I did not get a copy of his birth certificate in the UK but have their marriage certificate and the birth of my great grandfather, TGL as well as his death certificate.

Hi, In the 1950,s and 1960,s There were a family living in Sarsfield Street, Herne Bay, Auckland, NZ.

Although i cant remember the males first name, his surname was Leyland and he had a daughter called Margaret, who he seemed to be bringing up on his own. Maybe his wife had passed away.

Not sure if thats of any help, but thought it might lead you somewhere.

To napuss. Thanks for the note. So somehow we are joined withih the Limpus family. My G/Mother was Minnie Alice Limpus, younger sister of Thomas, Charles, Ada,Maria, Agnes, Henry,Louisa. Which of Thomas and Fanny's offspring do you .follow the line of? I have to say that as a family the Limpus people are very private. In the Hastings and Waipawa [ Hawkes Bay} cemeteries there are several headstones of the above familyI do not have a Birth Cert for Charles, but I do have this info.
Charles was born Liverpool Nov 3 1833; wed Maria Burgess[1833 to 1882]and had 9 children. Hope a little info for you. Did you have much to do with other Limpus persons, only one that I had anything to do with was Louisa who looked after 2 single brothers. Don't remember the men, but she was a gem, only one that I knew that laughed readily, they could be stoic, Minnie certainly was!
