My name is Leslie Peter Gillard. I am connected to FRANK GILLARD who was born in the Tavistock area in the 1830s. He became Master of Hounds to the Belvoir Hunt, retiring in 1896. There is a book about him by Cuthbert Bradley. I also had relatives living in Exminster in 1851. Some ancestors worked at Powderham Castle near Exeter.

I am a direct descendant of CHARLES GILLARD, born 1806 in Exeter, married ANN HEMINGS at St Mary Steps, Exeter 1832.

My father's name was PETER JOHN GILLARD, and his father's name was DIGHTON PROBYN GILLARD. These unusual names derive from his wife being a servant of SIR DIGHTON PROBYN,VC, Comptroller of the Household of Queen Alexandra.

Hello, My name is Helen Mary White and I am a direct descendant of Dighton Goodwin Gillard. I am a novice family history researcher but I am happy to share what I have. I would be very interested to hear more about where the name Dighton came from. So far I haven't spotted a Dighton Probyn Gillard. I would also be interested to know if you have come across a link with the name "Sanger".

I think hilarygillard aka Leslie Peter Gillard has made a mistake. I do not believe that Dighton Probyn Gillard changed his name because of his WIFE'S employer's name. It was most likely his MOTHER.

Were Dighton Probyn Gillard (hilarygillard 23/2/2007) and Dighton Goodwin Gillard (kajackson 23/4/2008) the same person?

I have discovered s.o. called Frank Charles Probyn Goodwin d. 5th May 1917 bur. Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery at Saulty, and wonder if he was related to Dighton Goodwin Gillard.

to Helen Mary White (20/2/2009), as well as Sir Dighton Probyn there was a Dighton family in Gloucestershire towards the end of the 19 th Cent. I have not yet discovered an exact relationship between them.
