This bit is not what you're looking for. It's just a coincidence I found interesting. In the Old Geraldton Cemetery at Geraldton Gaol there are two convicts buried. One by the name of Gilbert Grierson died 26 May 1877 age 40; and the other is George Mann died 14 September 1868 age 34.

Mr. David Grierson, who died on Monday after a long illness, was a veteran
of the South African war, having served with the 1st Gordon Highlanders, Liverpool Scottish. Mr. Grierson, who had been in this State for 24 years, was born in Scotland. In recent years he has been farming in the Kulja district. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Buffaloes of England and South Africa. He is survived by a widow and one son.
