thankyou familydetective .. I didn't know her birth date, nor marriage date. Just that she was John Rockliff's wife. So, no record of her parents on this marriage record.... or where she was born.
I think this is Emma Maria'a death but again it does no mention any relatives

An old resident on the North West
Coast, Mrs John Rockliff, died yesterday
at her residence, Cam road. The late Mrs
Rockliff will be known to all old residents
in the district , where she lived for many years.
ROCKLIFF Tasmania
So her full name is EMMA Maria Boston? So, marriage and death records (yes janilye, this is her for sure) She and John had 11 children, six dying young, most as a bout of diptheria going around. My husband descends from the third born, Alfred, who married Martha Bird. This couple had 8 children, descent comes from their eldest surviving son Arthur Alfred who came to N.Z. in early 1900's. Married Emily Ella Jane Johnston and had two children; descent through the younger Robert Athol Rockliff, my husband's father.
Still I would like to find our Emma Maria Boston's birth details !
thank you for your sleuthing everyone.
Where's the Emma? I don't see where she is recorded as 'Emma'
The marriage and death give her name as Maria only see HERE
Hmmm, yes, true.
I have just today found her referred to in my old email correspondence as Emma Maria, though initially she was only ever referred to as Maria Boston. Perhaps familydetective above could say where she is referred to officially as Emma Maria? At least, on that birth certificate data it states she was born in Tasmania... although death certificates can be quite inaccurate.
Sorry, death certificate.
This death notice refers to her as Maria too.

DEATH.
ROCKLIFF.—On November 14, at her son's residence, Cam Road, Maria,
widow of the late John Rockliff, Dunorlan.
The late Mrs Rockliff was an old resident of the Don.
As an aside I think you may be interested in this biography of Henry Reed, who's mother was a Rockliff.
This will show you the relationship of the Rockliffs' with Dunorlan in Tasmania and help you with your family history.
Sorry about the black type above!!

ROCKLIFF.... At Dunorlan, on the 25th of October
John Rockliff, aged 49 years. Yorkshire papers please copy.
Sorry about the Emma It should not have been included
family detective: it's curious though, that you should come up with the name 'Emma" at the same time I rediscovered reference to her under that name amongst my ancient scribbles!
Interesting janilye the directive to print John Rockliff's death notice in the Yorkshire papers. He was born in Kirk Smeaton in Yorkshire, and emigrated along with his elder brother Henry, in 1841, on the "Essex". They were sons of William Rockliff ("William of Waterloo" I call him - he was at that battle) who was a younger brother of Mary Reed nee Rockliff. It is presumed it was at their cousin Henry Reed's's behest/exhortation that they emigrated.
Mary and William had other siblings, amongst them a younger brother Henry, whose four sons also went to Tasmania, and prospered very well, mainly becoming farmers. Our John's family did not fare so well.
The Rockliff family tree has been traced and well documented (by others..) back to 1694 to a Francis Rockliff, Grocer, of Horncastle, thence to Francis the breeches maker b. 1725 in Alford, then his son Francis of Alford b.1748. This last Francis married Mary Dawson and were the parents of the above Mary, b. 1773, William b. 1775, and Henry b. 1781, amongst others.
That was interesting reading janilye re Henry Reed, thank you.
