Looking for marriage details of William James ALLIS and Florence Annie PARNECOTT

Query by beejay64

I've been trying without success to find the marriage certificate for William James ALLIS and Florence Annie PARNECOTT. The information I have is that they were married on the 28/5/1886 in Sydney, New South Wales. This information is on the birth certificate of their first child William George Philip ALLIS. Florence was married previously in 1880 to Ernest Henry Spenceley. I've seen Florence's surname spelt several ways - PARNICOTT, PARNACOTT and BARNICOTT however have been unable to find a marriage registered. Any help would be greated appreciated.

I see your problem. Had a dig through the indexes and came up with nothing. There is no marriage recorded in the NSW indexes and that's for sure. Your best bet would be to contact the New South Wales BDM and ask them to search their records for you. It is possible the entry was missed when the indexes were being compiled. There may also be other reasons.

I wonder if the same marriage details appear on Walter's birth certificate?

It looks like your Ernest Henry SPENCELEY arrived in Victoria on the "Somersetshire" in 1876 aged 21 years. I found his marriage to Florence in 1880 but have not located his death. I thought he may have died and Florence remarried. I also checked for their divorce but nothing recorded. He may have decided married life was not for him and he went back home to Chelsea.

I also noticed that Florence's maiden name is recorded as PARNACOTT at birth, and has the same spelling when she married in 1880. Her father's name is also spelt PARNACOTT in the death index. This seems to be the correct spelling.

We all have our brick walls. If I put all my brick walls together I could build a city.

Sorry I could be of no further help.

Thanks for having a look as well. I'll get Walter's birth certificate to see if the marriage details match and if so will follow up with the NSW BDM. You never know, it may just lead to more questions.
