looking for marriage of james KENNY and Margaret E?
I still have not been able to find out the surname of the lady who married James KENNY in Auckland and any more retails about her. It has been rumoured that she may have been Maori. I married a Maori myself in Masterton NZ in 1967. The family there think you may be able to help.

Hello there ...
I have this for you :)
James Hoare Kenny married Elizabeth Curtin [aka Margaret Elizabeth Curtin] in NEW ZEALAND, 1863.
Registration is: 1863/628 ... the groom is listed [in Aug 2014] as "Sup Vol 1" ... I would think this indicates that they haven't yet finished transcribing.
The Poverty Bay Herald of 17 Sept 1900 indicates that Mrs Kenny was, "one of the earliest settlers of Waikato, and has been in the colony for upwards of fifty years." It doesn't indicate where she comes from though; I assume the UK.
Hope that helps :) ...
Austin James Kenny is a "connected" person to me:
He is the Paternal grandfather of the wife of the half 1st cousin once removed of me.
As to the other children ... Elizabeth and James were married as you now know in 1863, Elizabeth was already 30 by then; there were six children in total, 3 sons, 3 daughters; I only have 2 sons and Susan.
I have a question for you ... if you can help me ... How then, does {Sister} Elizabeth Kenny fit into the picture ... I can't find any links in her genealogy that connect to these Kenny's ... ?
Kind regards,
Hi SafeBoy,
So sorry for the late response (I thought I had responded earlier(!)).
Thanks ever so much for your information.
I'm still trying to prove the link to Sister Elizabeth Kenny, although I am certain f the relationship because my mother Doreen Mavis Kenny (Mavis) always referred to her as Aunt Elizabeth, and she would visit my mother when she came to Sydney.
At the moment, I assume that the link must be through Michael Henry Butler Kenny (1838 - 1913). I think his father is Henry Kenny (born about 1808) who may have married a Julia Butler, b. around 1812.
With the names being common, it's a bit hard to confirm the relationships.
Does this help?
Kind regards,
Geraldine
Hi SafeBoy, Did you ever manage to get a marriage certificate for James Hoare Canny and Elizabeth Curtin. I obtained one 20 years ago while doing my research. James always went by the name Canny during his time fighting in the Maori wars, and, when he was living in Kihikihi. It wasnt until he moved to Gisborne that he used the Kenny name. Bridget Canny age 20 and Johanna Canny age 18 servants from Ballinalacken,Doolin arrived in NZ on the Gala December 25 1865. Both sponsored by James Canny. Applicants of the bond, James Canny,Martin Curtin and,Thomas O'Neil. The girls definitely arrived in NZ,but unfortunately we have been unable to find anything of Johanna from that date. Possibly she went to Australia Cheers.
