Do you have any more details about Mary?
Is it possible that she is related to Catherine MORONEY b c1832, Johannah MULROONEY b c1833, William MORONEY b c1833, Ellen MORONEY b c1841?
Catherine and Johannah arrived in Australia c1857, William and Ellen arrived aboard the FitzJames 1 April 1857. All from Tipperary, IRE.
My ancestor, Johannah, has been recorded with many variations of the family name, MUROONEY, MORONEY, MARONEY.
Thank you for your reply. I don't think these people are related. The infomation I have on Mary is:
Arr. Australia 26 July 1855, "Exodus", 24yrs old, single, paid way, parents both dead.
d/c MARY MARONWEY - lists death in 1887 at Cootamundra, NSW
m/c MARY MARONEY - 8 Feb 1861 at "Mr Joseph Carberry 's Five Mile Inn at Gundagai". Parents names were not listed on m/c. Her occ. was listed as "servant" & usual place of residence was Gundagai' Married Antoni Melzer.
Mary is referenced Albert Grulke's unpublished book " Kinder des Vaterlandes " (A history of the German settlers into New South Wales in the 19th century)www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/.../Kinder%20des%20Vaterlandes.doc. "Further down the road we find the Melzer family who settled in Gundagai. Here again we see the union of German and Irish as Antoni Melzer married MARY MARONEY in 1861 at Five Mile Creek . Today it is where the dog sits on the tuckerbox. in Antoni was born in Garshwitz Germany".
On one of her children's b/c (14June 1872) Mary's details are listed as MARY MARONEY, 40yrs of age, b. County Clare, Ireland.
What I would really like to know is:
1. did any of her family migrate with her?
2. what were her parents details?
3. why did she come to A/a?
4. any other information on her?
Thank you.
