Looking for Mathew Hughes from Ireland

Query by Gayndah

I'm looking for information about my GGG Grandfather Mathew Hughes and his family. He was born in 1770 at Castlepollard, West Meath in Ireland. He was transported to Australia on the Britania and arrived here in May 1797. We have information after his arrival in Australia.

According to the settlers list Matthew Hughes arrived in July 1798 on the ship Britannia he was convicted in Downpatrick in Dec 1795.

Its about 109 miles from Castlepollard to Downpatrick. Where did you find out he was born in Castlepollard

have you tried looking for parish records here:

St. Michael's Church,
