Looking for McCrohon/Lockhart of Patrick Plains New South Wales Australia

Query by Jenchant

I am researching the McCrohons who are descended from Emily & John McCrohon, through their daughter Adelaide who married William Lockhart of Patrick Plains. My grandmother Veronica Chantrill (nee Hunt) is the great granddaugher of Adelaide, who raised her son Edward's illegitimate daughter Mary Delanty. Mary's marriage certificate states that she was adopted by her grandfather William Lockhart. Mary Delanty (aka Delahunty) married Alfred Hunt; they are my grandmother's parents. I have had research done by the Newcastle Family History Society who have sent me copies of BDM and baptism certificates.Mary Delanty is sometimes added as child of William and Adelaide Lockhart in some published material which I have received from the Newcastle FHS.

William Lockhart born 1836 married Alice Mary McCrohon in 1859 at St Patricks Church Singleton NSW by Father Hanlan. I believe her full name was Amelia Alice Mary McCrohon. She was reportedly the daughter of a Major McCrohon who served at Waterloo. The SYDNEY MORNING HERALD dated Saturday 5th Feb 1909 This same couple celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Their place of residence in the paper was given as Springvale, Rouchell near Aberdeen. William had seven siblings,John,Charles,Maria, Alfred, Eliza, Edward and James. My lines come through Charles Lockhart 1840-1908 buried Casino. At present a number of decendents live in and around Casino and Tenterfield NSW.
I would to happy to assist with more details
Williams father was Edward Lockhart, a convict who arrived on the BORODINO in 28.7.1838 He was married to Eliza Parker at Scots Church Sydney 16 Oct 1834

Hi Tina, great to hear from you, another cousin! I have confirmed informatin about John McCrohon, and I have his full, complete Military Record which I obtained from England. He was never a Major, although at some stage he was a drum Major. He was a triple sergeant...Colour Sergeant, Quatermaster Sergeant, and one other. I am confused, my records say that William Lockhart married Adelaide Amelia McCrohon, this is recorded in the Pioneer Register. Amelia was Adelaide's mother. I think the name Alice Mary McCrohon is wrong. I could send you the photocopies I got from the FHS at Newcastle NSW. My Grandmother called Adelaide grandmother for the first 16 years of her life as Edward was eclipsed as father of Mary Delanty. I had the FHS at Newcastle do the research personally for me. I will dig it out and get back to you. I can scan the record of William Lockhart's marriage to 'Adeliade' McCrohon and send it to you; it also lists all their children including Mary Ellen, who is my great-grandmother, but was in reality the child of Edward Lockhart, and whose marriage certificate, which I have from BDM NSW confirms that Edward Lockhart adopted 'his granddaughter' at the age of 3 years old. Lovely to hear from you, and these discrepancys do arise. Cheers Jennifer

Clive Innes McCrohon I was brought up believing to be my grandfather. His mother was Elizabeth Forbes & Louis Estall McCrohon. Clive and his wife, Agnes Linda O'Rourke, had 3 children: Maxwell Estall, Otho Micheal and Noeleen Mary.
