Looking for Nathaniel Burdick of Pa/NY
The branch of my family tree originates in Forest County and McKean Copunty, Pa, birthplaces of my parents.
I have traced back to my gr. grandfather, Nathan Burdick, who was listed in the Frewsburg, NY 1850 census as being 26 years of age
Nathan was born in 1827, fought with the 83rd Pa Infantry in the Civil War. He fathered 10 children, raising 13, and was in the lumber business. He is buried in W. Hickory, Pa.
Robert W. Burdick Sr. - b. 1854 - eldest son - my grandfather.
Robert W Burdick Jr. - b. 1890 - Henry\'s Mills, Pa d. 1966 my father- married May Belle Phillips ca 1910
Maybelle Delp Phillips - b 1889 Kane, Pa d. 1970 - my mother.
I am hoping to find more information about Nathaniel Burdick (Nathan\'s father; my gr.gr. grandfather) and
verify that he was married to a full blooded Native American, and how he came to w. Pennsylvania or W.
New York.
As a result of my inquires, I have enjoyed correspondence with several distant cousins whom I neverknew existed, and will pass along any information I receive, on to them.
It has been suggested that in the biase that existed back in that day, that anyone marrying an Indian would be disowned by the family, and that could explain the lack of records regarding Nathaniel.
Can anyone add to that ?
Thanks for any information.
