Dear Dorharp, Hi there. Welcome to FamilyTreeCircles!

Generally more information from you in a journal would be desirable in order to help, like dates or just the year would be great.

MARRIAGES

I found a William Joseph PAYNE that married a Thelma Ellen JACKSON in 1933 NZ.

Also found a Queenie Victoria PAYNE that married a William George DIX in 1932.

If you click on my profile 'allycat' and then click on Country: New Zealand, try and find a journal I submitted on genealogy in New Zealand. There should be many links for you to sink your teeth into. Also there is a big list of cemeteries in New Zealand.

I've also found that a lot of Kiwis emigrated to Australia by going to Victoria first. So information could be at the Public Record Office Victoria PROV. Click on 'access the collection' underneath Ned Kelly's pic.

The more information you include in your profile, your journals etc. the better.

Q.What is your connection to the CORNES family?

Read what other users have written in their journals and write yours in a similar style if you can.

We're all here to help each other.

Kind regards,
Alison
QLD Australia.

My maternal grandfather was William Joseph Payne. His first wife was Rosetta Mabel Surman, who died in 1921 of puerpereal septicaemia. Their daughter Iris Mabel Payne was my mother. William married Queenie Alexandra Cornes on 2nd April 1925, when he was 40 and she was 23. They had five children Ronald (1925), Alan ('26), Beryl ('29), Ernest ('31) and Mary ('32). Unfortunately Queenie did not want my mother around, so she was brought up by Willia's sister Maudie and her husband Frederick Cooper. Their son Brian was my godfather. I haveno knowledge of William and Queenie's descendants, but would be very grateful for any information you might have.
