Looking for POTTS Sunderland Durham, England.

Query by Heather_T

Alan POTTS born 7 Nov 1906 Sunderland, Durham, England ,(Verified Alan?s daughter (living) and ?England & WALES free BMD Birth Index 1837-1983?)
Alan is my husband?s uncle by marriage. His wife Mavis Irene TAYLOR(sister of my husband?s father)was born 18 Mar 1919 Melbourne, Vic. Aust., married Alan
25 June 1945 Clifton Hill, Vic. Aust. Alan POTTS was buried 7 Jan 1992 at
Preston Cemetery, Vic., Aust., Area L, grave No. 00781 (age 85)
His Mother ?Ethel? is also in the same grave. I have the relevant cemetery records.
Victorian Death Index 1921-1985 shows Ethel?s parents to be ? Robt ROBINSON and Eleanor LAYBURN ?Death Place is Northcote, Vic., Year 1943 Reg. No. 2416
All
Today, I found an entry under free BMD Marriages showing a marriage of
Eleanor LEYBOURN and Robert ROBINSON for Sep 1855 I believe this to be correct, but do not yet have proof.
From ?Familysearch? I have found an entry for Robert, Eleanor and children, and
an 1881 Census record for this family living at 24 Park Place West, Census Place -Bishopwearmouth Durham England.
I also found a marriage record for Ethel ROBINSON and a George POTTS married
1899 Jul/Aug/Sep Sunderland, Durham, Tyne and Wear. This was the only entry I could find that fitted the time frame, ie: Alan?s birth 1906. I do not know if this is the right ?husband? POTTS for Ethel, but I suspect it might be.
So far as I know, Alan was an only child, so no siblings, and I believe Victoria ? Reservoir ( a suburb of Melbourne) was his only place of residence.
Alan and Mavis had 3 children -1son, 2daughters(all living)
I have been doing my husband?s and my own family trees for about 3 years now, but this particular part is proving hard to sort.
Any help at all, I would greatly appreciate,
Heather

Dear Heather_T, Hi there. In order to help you with your genealogy, could you please elaborate on your mini tree posted above?

For example, do you have Alan POTTS Death Certificate? What State of Australia did he settle? Was he your grandfather? Did Alan POTTS have any siblings? More info...

Tip: Edit this journal and have POTTS, ROBINSON, LAYBURN, LEYBOURN, LEYBOURNE at the bottom written in uppercase and separated by commas. If you then have a look, surnames will become clickable links back to surname wiki pages and/or other researchers.

POTTS is a very common and popular surname, so it is best to carefully work backwards from yourself.

If your ancestors emigrated to Australia, data can be freely found at the National Archives of Australia.

Also check bdms for each State of Australia. Click on my profile to see journals I have written on genealogy in every State of Australia...heaps of links to look through.

For the ones from England, they should appear on Census' taken every 10 years, searchable from 1901, 1891, 1881, 1871, 1861, 1851, 1841 and in some cases earlier depending on which County.

You can post lookup requests at rootschat.com. Firstly sign up as a free member. Then goto the England general board to see if a rootschatter can find their marriage. It is a possible clue that they could have married in Sunderland. RootsChat.com - England - Durham ... see Lookup Requests and Resources

Hi Heather
Are you still looking for Potts? I have information about the Potts family in County Durham dating from the 19th century.
You can let me know.
