hi paul,my great uncle was g.e.pruden born 1870 the great artist, his sister gertrude pruden was my grandmother on my fathers side. you will find a painting done by him at the turnball library n.z. his brother albert born 1872 was also an artist, he died at an early age. james and sarah were my gg grandparents. his father also g.e.pruden remarried at the age of 71 to eva clayton and adopted her three year old daughter betty pruden. he died a few years later and there was a big upset in the family of the inheritance, eva inherited everything. if you have some info that you could pass onto me i would be greatful. cheers

hi all, not a relative, i think! but, i do have a painting by j a pruden. probably done from the desert road somewhere. it was framed by harwoods ltd in 12/1926. seems that the framer went by the surname of watisland? (gender unknown). have seen work by g e pruden and this is very similar in style. i purchased 2 at the same time, the other was signed t a pruden, totally different style, i sold that and kept this one of the mountain with a stream and native bush in the foreground. around 1981 i contacted a person by the name of pruden in the new plymouth, taranaki or wanganui area but they were unable to help. the painting is on canvass, oak frame that seems to be original although the backing seems to have been altered or maybe just deteriorated with time. it could do with a clean but i have never found anyone local that i would trust with it.
have never logged onto a forum like this b4, hope it reaches one of you all. Mike
Hi Mike,
are you able to upload a photo of this painting so we can have a look ??
Hi My grandmothers maiden name was Lillian Winifred PRUDEN she was born in Eltham (Mangatoki) New Zealand on 26 Feb 1901 She married William John Campbell CAVANAGH, Date of death on my records is 15 August 1977. Any information you can supply will be gratefully recieved. Ive not long started researching and thought this site may be a good starting point :)

Mozzie,
J. A. PRUDEN painting there is a possibility this was done by one of the wife's. I have seen paintings by Lancelots wife which are in very similar style to G. E. Prudens work.
