Looking for Reginald HALLAM, son of David Edwin HALLAM and Ellen LEIGHTON, Qld Australia

Query by lostmethongs

Hi, my great grandfather was Reginald Joseph HALLAM (born Springsure 1894, died 1951 brisbane)son of David Edwin HALLAM and Ellen Leighton, I'm confused though as i've just found he was born Reginald Augustus Charles HALLAM. All his war info lists him as Reginald Joseph, his father David E of "Yandaburra" Station and his N.O.K mother E Hallam" and so does his death certificate, Reg's siblings were Grace, Ernest and Arthur that i know of. does anyone know of this line or where the line came from before Australia????
any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thankyou.

Dear 'lostmethongs', Welcome. There are a lot of HALLAMs in my tree (from NSW) connected to the ROADS/MERRY family (my ancestors). I'm thinking that the NSW and QLD Hallams were connected but haven't yet found the link. The HALLAMs in my tree originated from Essex in England.

Your gg grandparents, David Edwin HALLAM and Ellen LEIGHTON married in Queensland in 1892 (registration no.1800). Perhaps if you purchase their marriage certificate you will gain some clues to their origins. Certs should state how long in Colony etc.

Their children were:-

1.1893/10451 Ernest Edwin David HALLAM
2.1894/10241 Reginald Augustus Charles HALLAM
3.1897/10265 Arthur Victor Hugh HALLAM
4.1899/64663 Grace Victoria Ruth HALLAM

To order QLD certs online, Dept Justice and Attorney-General click on Family History Research, click on Search Our Historical Records, click on Launch the online historical index search, then click on Historical Index Searching etc.

Births 1829 to 1914
Deaths 1829 to 1964
Marriages 1829 to 1934

You're welcome. Also think about having your family tree online somewhere, that's a fantastic way of finding those 2nd to 5th cousins who are descendants of the same set of ancestors as yourself.

Try GenesReunited for a small annual fee. What's great about this site is that once you start entering your tree, every fortnight you get these automatic 'Hot Matches' that show similar names in your tree with other GenesReunited members. If there is a match, you may then 'share' your tree with the click of a button.

Try TribalPages - free site, with the option to upgrade, less banner adverts, more room to add photos and bio. You may password protect your tree and click on the option to hide living relatives information to protect their privacy. (GR lets you do this too).

My favourite site is Geni because it is free and extremely easy to use. You can upgrade to GeniPro once you become more proficient. Gives you a bigger screen layout to work on your tree and much more. And the fantastic part is you can invite your living relatives via their email address to the same tree so you can all work on a collaborative approach to your genealogy.

Maybe the QLD and NSW Hallam's will link up eventually?

EDITOR.

PS Don't worry about middle names being different. BDM records are only as reliable as the informant who registered the entry.

Have found some interesting stuff already, ive found out Peter Dudley Hallam came here as a convict for stealing boots and his son David spent time in St Helena Island prison at some stage though im not sure what for yet. i will try the other links you gave me, create a tree and will keep you posted and if i find that link between QLD and NSW Hallams you'll be the first to know.
Thanks for being so helpfull!!!

Cool! You can now edit this journal to add what you've found.

Another option is to become a rootschatter Rootschat register as a new user, free site, ... it's enormous by the way ... you will get addicted quickly. Then find their Australia board and post some lookup requests to help you fill in the blanks. NB Please read their 'how to post' instructions first. And don't divulge any information on the living on the web (just in case).

I have my tree at Geni so if there are any connections, we'll find them.

Best wishes.
