Can I assume you have the UK census for 1871, 1881, 1891 1901 and 1911 giving you the above information?
There are quite a few possibilities for Richard Hocking from Cornwall and not knowing any positive details, you could choose any one of them.
Is it possible to give some details of the person you are trying to link Richard Hocking to, it may help in tracking the right Richard.
Thank you for the quick responses. I have checked the appropriate Census records but can't seem to find Richard before his first marriage. The family member I am doing the research for had lots of mixed information so I am trying to piece the correct families together. She thought that the parents may be Simon Hocking & Elizabeth Solomon but I can't confirm this. I have tried Find my Past, Ancestry, Family Search etc and can't find this link. I guess this family member really needs to get the birth certificate or marriage certificate of Richard to Mary Jane Williams but for some reason doesn't want to do this at this stage.
Ancestral line is: Leonard Hocking b 1927 Bristol - died 2008 Bristol
Mother: Phyllis Victoria Hocking b:1903 Bristol d: 1978
Father: Unknown
Phyllis married Henry G Gamblin Sep Q 1932
Phyllis' parents: Philip Henry Hocking b: 1869 bapt:1870 Penzance Wesleyan Circuit
Laura Edith Adele (Ada) Hambly married Sep Q 1891 Barton R.Gloucestershire
Philip H. Hocking's Parents: Richard Hocking b: 1843 Truro
Mary Jane Williams m: Mar Q 1868 (1st marriage)
Fanny Amelia Bell m: Jun Q 1891 (2nd marriage)
There are a number of references to Richard Hocking b 1842/1843 so not sure which family he belongs to.
Any further help would be appreciated.
I think the only way forward is for you to purchase the marriage certificate for Richard & Mary Jane Williams it will at least give you a few more clues as to the right Richard Hocking.
If you have some clue to his father's name and occupation it may be easier to find the right Richard b1843 Truro(which can include surrounding parishes of Kea, Kenwyn & St.Clements).
There is nothing showing on the OPC site for a baptism of Richard b1843 Truro, but he may not have been baptised.
Cornwall OPC site, has lots of useful information and it is free to search and they also have a help service.

Thank you for your reply. I have not heard back from the person who made the original inquiry. Would you be happy to supply me with the details so I can contact her again.
I am the Research Director for the Hocking Descendants Society based in Australia and would appreciate any information you would be happy to share. All details on our database is private and not open to the public, so any living persons details are kept private. To access information one would need to become a member. Denise
I HAVE LOOKED ON ALL THE CENSUS FOR RICHARD FRO 1871 -1911 ON ALL HE IS LISTED A JOINER, CARPENTER OR BOTH.
I WOULD EXPECT TO FIND HIM IN THE 1861 CENSUS AS A CARPENTER APPRENTICE OR JOURNEYMAN.
SO FAR I HAVE NOT FOUND HIM BUT SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT. HIS FATHER MAY ALSO HAVE THE SAME TRADE.
