Looking for ROGERS in Jackson County, Tennessee
My father is Larry Rogers, and I'm trying to trace his descendant who fought in the Revolutionary War and received land in Jackson County Tennessee as payment for military duty. Larry's dad was Sylvester Charley Rogers, born 6-7-1893, to Robert Oliver Rogers and Mary Martha Jane Johnson. Robert and Mary married and lived in Cooke County, Tenn., in the 1880s and had 10 children, but I only know Sylvester Charley (S.C.) and Thelma.
The land was originally 2000 acres and was passed down through the generations, but only 200 acres was left by the time it was sold in 1938 by my grandfather S.C. "Roger" Rogers. The Cumberland Dam took much of it. Cumberland River borders it on one side and Flynn's Lick Creek on the other. Currently a portion of the land is Camp Discovery Park for handicap children. All 200 acres that sold by S.C. is now owned by the Corp of Engineers.
S.C. was a non-licensed vet in Tennessee, having attended vet school in Kentucky. He was married to Pearl Boyd. Children include Thelma, Charles Sylvester, Robert Oliver, and Jim Boyd. S.C. moved to California and later married Fern Domingo Reeves in 1942 in Seneca, Mo. Children are Larry Bert Rogers and Donna Kay. S.C. later married Agnes (last name unknown).
Any information about Robert Oliver Rogers or S.C. "Roger" Rogers appreciated. Contact me at lbailey@crowder.edu
