The Queenslander Newspaper in the 1920s had a children's page, where children sent in letters and puzzles to "Aunt Fileuse. I know Abraham had a granddaughter, through Walter Neville SHIPLEY 1888-1959, Doris Isabel 1917-1998. so I believe thiis is one of your SHIPLEY decendants.
Below is a letter Which I have transcribed from The Children's Page of an issue dated Thursday 25 October 1928.
DEAR Aunt Fileuse.?l am writing to you to tell you about- my school life. I like school. l am in third class, second half-year.
We have sewing on Friday and Tuesday, and also, on Tuesday we have games. We have a nice garden and also shady trees, where we have our dinner and lunch. I go to the Central School. We have a big playground to play in, where we can have a big run.
DORIS SHIPLEY (age 10 years). Waterworks-road, Warwick.
Thank you so very much, Walter Neville was my Grandfathers Brother.
Granddad (William Joseph) came out to New Zealand where he married, so any information on the Shipleys in Australia is very much appreciated.
There's a SHIPLEY monument in the Warwick General Cemetery inscribed on it are these names;
Abraham born 7 June 1856 died 26 April 1925 H/O MARY sHIPLEY
George born 5 April 1825 died 04 March 1884

Mary born 3 April 1860 died 03 April 1884

Now according to the 1861 and 1871 census George was born in Teteschell, Staffordshire. He married Sarah MORGAN and according to the same census she was born in Bragley County Shroppshire. I have no idea who their parents were.

My Grandmother was Martha Shipley, daughter of Abraham Shipley and Mary(Neville)and sister to William Joseph and Walter. Martha had 4 children, Edwin, Jean, Heather, and my father Harold. I have a copy of the Shipley family tree going back to George Shipley, born 5/4/1825, in Staffordshire England. If my records are correct he is my great, great grandfather.

Hi,
Our husbands are also grandsons of Walter Shipley (Arnold's sons). We are trying to find information about Martha Shipley. We have found records where she married Charles Gordon in 1914 and had a son Edwin Nevill West (properly Gordon). We also have a marriage to Albert Rieck in 1935.
Can anyone give us information on the connection to the Wests (i.e. was there another marriage?) and are Jean, Heather and Harold from this marriage? Also, did Heather West marry a Kronk?
We're happy to share any information we have found so far.

Hi I am the Grandaughter of William Joseph SHIPLEY, the brother of Walter.
My Grandfather lived in New Zealand, he came here as a young man , married and went on to have a family.Yes I believe Heather did marry a Kronk, and and yes Edwin, Harold and Jean are all from this marriage , but the children also changed their name to West.
I can remember Martha well as she came out to New Zealand for several months to look after my Grand- dad after he lost his wife Also willing to share information that I have.'

This was a very interesting read for me as it has answered some of our many questions regarding the mysterious Martha Shipley, and her children to Charles John Edwin Gordon 1871-1953. Martha is my great grandmother I have tracked her census records and her marriage records and can also confirm she married Albert Rieck (1876-1950) in 1935 when she was 47. The last traceable records I have for her is the 1949 census Martha Rieck Gin Gin home duties. Then in 1954 in Bundy (11 Wyper Street).
I am happy to share any information that I might have, and would welcome any information to help reveal some of the mysteries of my family tree.
