I am researching my ggrandmother's family. Her father was Franklin Smith. Records indicate he was born early 1820's in Ohio or NY. He was married to Margaret Barnhart (est dob 1832 in Canada) on 12/16/1855 in Wayne Cty, MI. This was definitely his 2nd marriage as he had 2 children (Elizabeth-est dob 1847 & Alva/Alve est dob 1853-both born in MI) on the 1860 census in Greenfield, MI,Wayne Cty with Margaret. 1870 census from Austin, MI, Cty of Mecosta shows 4 more children-Lavina(est dob 1860), Willie(est dob 1864),Ida(dob 8/29/1865) & Amanda(est dob 1868)all born in MI. I believe I found him also on the 1880 census living with his son, Alva. It indicates he was divorced. I believe Franklin may have been married to a Cloretta prior to Margaret based on 1850 census in Greenfield,MI.If so, he had 2 more children-Eveline(est dob 1842)& Edgar(est dob 1840)both born in MI.
My ggrandmother Ida Smith was born in Morley, MI and died 5/19/1916 in Youngstown, NY was married to Asa G Mason dob 2/1/1857 in Canajoharie, NY and died 4/1/1943 in Buffalo,NY. They resided in Michigan for some years.I believe they had 3 children there. Roy Mason(est dob 5/1882-died 11/9/1884 in Grand Rapids,MI, Kent Cty),Ada Bell Mason (born 6/23/1883 Byron,MI-died 3/25/1886 in Dorr, MI) & Edith born 10/1882 in Dorr,MI-died 3/30/1886 in Dorr,MI). Both Ada & Edith died of diptheria.
Asa and Ida later lived in Sardinia,NY. They had two children. Frank Mason dob 6/3/1887 in Arcade,NY-died in Buffalo,NY and Myrtle Margaret born 3/12/1904 in Arcade,NT-died 3/1986 in Buffalo, NY.
I believe Franklin's daughter Elizabeth est dob 1847 was born in Wayne Cty, MI and was married in Ontario, Canada 11/8/1978 to William Allen. Parents listed on marriage record is Franklin and Claretta Smith. Have no other info.
I found Alva Smith on 1880 census living with wife Rebeca(est dob 1860 in Canada and children Berta(son est dob 1878 in MI) and Loretta(est dob 1879 in MI)
I have been unable to connect anything to the other children of Franklin & Cloretta or Franklin and Margaret.
