Looking for Steinburg of Dundas

Query by Ken65

I have been trying to find documentation for William Van Steinburg(b. 1816, Winchester) as to who his parents were. I have marriage and death records but none show the parents. Most people accept Thomas Van Steinburgh and Mary Polly Shirley as the logical parents. If Thomas and Mary are his parents, this is the only documentation back to 1660 that I am missing. There tends to be a split in the members of the family searching. Others tend to feel the family came to Canada from Pennsylvania rather than New York and were part of the Pennsylvania Dutch which would mean of German descent rather than Dutch. I have been working on the family tree since the early 1970's. Census and marriage and death records indicate both possibilities. The only actual records previous that I have found have been for the New York or Dutch descent. Thomas and Mary are the only ones in the area that anyone I have been in contact with have been able to find that would fit as his logical parents. I have searched the internet and not had any luck in finding any connection for the family in Pennsylvania and after spending a week in the Winchester/Cardinal area I wasn't able to find anything supporting either connection.
I have been in direct contacted with members of the family for many lines from William forward and in cases where I may not have documentation I have talked with or emailed members of the family and discussed their parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents and received dates and locations from them. There are a few lines forward of William's children I would like to fill in.
