Looking for the ELSTON and COURT families, from the Exmoor and Exeter areas of SW England

My maternal grandmother was Rose ELSTON, of Exeter, who married Harry BELCHER around 1917. As far as I can remember - how I wish I had paid more attention at the time - her mother was Jane/Ginnie COURT. At some point, her mother (or grandmother) had run away from the family farm on Exmoor, to avoid being married to an older neighbouring farmer, and ended up in service in Exeter. I'd love to find out the truth of this, and whether I've any family connection on Exmoor.

Rose married Harry 1917; in Exeter, Devon ; Q3 5b 123. In the 1901 census there are 2 Rose Elstons from Devon listed, one born in 1888 in Holy Trinity, Exeter living in St Thomas the Apostle Devon with parents George & Emma plus sister Florie. The other is Rose Barbara born 1891 in Exeter living in Birkenhead, Cheshire with parents James & Jessie plus sister Thomasena and brother James Wallace. If you think either of these are your Rose I could probably do some more research for you

Thanks for this. The 1888 date is right, I think - I shall have to check. I've never heard that the family were ever in Birkenhead, though my mum (Rose's daughter) was called Barbara. As far as I know, Rose was Rose Ellen, named for twin sisters who had died in infancy before she was born, and she lived all her life in Exeter.
