My GG Grandfather was Thomas Gillies & dissapeared after his last child Eliza was born in 1861. He was born abt. 1830 & mar. Mary Rose on 12 Aug 1852 in Hope Derbyshire UK they had 5 children Joseph 1852, Mary 1856, John 1859, Ann 1860, & Eliza 1861. His father, John was registered as a mechanic and deceased at the time of his marriage. On January 22nd 1862 a Thomas Gillis applied for a passsport

One of the pages has lists of trees members have contributed. There are a number of "Gillis" trees. I took a quick look but did not find Emma Ann. It might be worth checking out, though.

I have an Emma Ann Gillis born Bet. Jun 20 - 28, 1882 in Wellington, PEI, Canada. She married Laurence B. Pembroke. Her parents were James Hugh "Hughie" Gillis and Catherine Sheehan.

That is my grandmother. Where did you find the info. that said James Hugh was also called "Hughie", I haven't come across that reference anywhere.Thanks for the information. If I can help you with any research just let me know--I'll be happy to help.

Something is not adding up here. If your Emma's parents were James H Gillis and Catherine Sheehan and the census above is correct James was born in 1839.

If Thomas was born in abt 1830 and came to Canada in 1861 he could not have been James father because James was born in 1839 in Canada.

Do you have the marriage cert for James and Catherine marriage which should show the fathers name?

This looks like James in 1881 still on lot 16 but his Nationality: Scotch (Scotish)
