Looking for the HALL families of NJ, IL, KS, NE
John D Hall born in Somerset Co March 7 1840 and moved when approximately l0 years old to Fairview, Fulton Co IL. Entered the Union Army (Civil War) at Mt. Sterling, Brown Co IL 186l (Any Related Hall family there) Was in the seige of Atlanta Ga. Was in cavalry, was a teamster. Received a pension. Have some Civil war records but his parents were not mentioned. Mem who signed his papers for disability and who were neighbors cannot find until 1870s.
John D was married in Lewiston IL 1866 to Margaret Ellen VIRDEN, the daughter of Jacob M and Elizabeth KNIGHT. (Also researching VIRDEN family line) The BOTKINS, FISHERS (he worked for Abraham H Fisher before & after the war), HUFF (thought that John D Father died his mother married a HUFF but cannot find out. (Not Yet), Halls , this group seems to have lived in at least IL and moved to KS together .
It's funny that we haven't found any of them in 1860s. They also homesteaded in Osborne Co KS and their lands joined real close.
John D passed away in Dec 1901 and is buried in Bethany Center Cem.
Osborne KS. He had 4 children: Catherine B (Mrs John C HUNT; Frank Winford HALL, John William Hall (father-in-law of writer), and Richard C Hall(Never married) John D, Margaret & Richard "Dick" are all buried in Bethany Center Cem. A little note that I hope might retrieve a Bible that was left in the Hall's car when they sold it when leaving Osborne KS for Buffalo, MO. It was a Bible in which the VIRDEN Family records were recorded & hopefully some of the HALL's.
If anyone knows if it might have been kept by someone, given to museum, or whatever it sure would be nice to get the info from it. They left Ks in l947. Would be nice to recover if possible. Wish someone donated it to a historical society. Mrs. Raymond P HALL
