If you haven't already purchased copies of your g.grandparents death certificates, you can do so at Joy Murrin Family History Services. She is a registered Transcription Agent and offers certs a bit cheaper than the NSW bdm site, but you need the registration no to proceed.

Click on FAMILY HISTORY, then click on SEARCH HISTORICAL INDEXES, then click on SEARCH NOW, BIRTH AND DEATH RECORDS etc.

This looks like your ancestor and his siblings:-

Stephen E. ROBERTS born 1889 Merewether NSW
Evelyn W. ROBERTS born 1891 Merewether NSW
Clarence Willis H. ROBERTS born 1893 Newcastle NSW, died 1956 Sydney NSW
Arthur Edward ROBERTS born 1895 Wickham NSW, died 1956 Marrickville NSW

Also, it can't hurt to see if any of these 4 chaps served for Australia - Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Click on SEARCH OUR RECORDS, then type your surname in, and click on SUBMIT.

I can't find a marriage for your g.grandparents Stephen ROBERTS and Margaret WILSON in New South Wales. Perhaps they married in Victoria. To find their marriage details in Victoria, try joining up as a free member of rootschat, then post a new topic (like a journal here) looking for their marriage RootsChat.com - Emigrants - Emigrants to Australia. Lots of rootschatters have the VIC BDM indexes on cd-rom and can do lookups for you. You may even find Margaret WILSON's birth details, her parents and siblings.

Tip: with a common and popular surname like ROBERTS and even WILSON, you most probably will have to purchase bdm certs of the ones in Australia until you find family in England, Scotland etc. then you can trace back through the Census years 1901 back to 1841 every 10yrs. Rootschat site is good for this too.

To see enlistment, emigration, passenger details, war service, patents, even photos, etc. check out The National Archives of Australia, click on RECORD SEARCH, then SEARCH NOW AS A GUEST...type in the surname you are researching in the keywords or name section, then click on SEARCH at the bottom.

Hi Allycat, Thanks for the information on my grandfathers siblings. It seems his father Stephen Edward Roberts had remarried in 1896 to Elizabeth J Townsend and has two more sons, 1899 Edgar J & 1905 John. But that's all I have at the moment. I don't know what happened to his first wife Margaret Wilson perhaps she died not long after Arthur was born. I don't know.

Yes, Stephen Edward Roberts and Margaret Wilson were married in Ballarat Vic 1888. I have sent for their marriage cert and should have it in a few days.

Update: I have located the Roberts side of the family and have found some wonderful cousins along the way.

News on Edgar: Edgar was killes in action in WWl in France.

I have found the grave sites of my GG Grandfather Robert Roberts and his daughter in law Margaret Roberts nee Wilson, they are here in Newcastle NSW.
