Looking for Wendibank that came from Germany

Hello-
I am looking for any information about my Great Great Grandfather George Wendibank. When I was a little girl My Grandmother told me this story.... when my g.g. grandfather George was young he had a dream of being a jockey so he stowed away on a ship to the Americas. Half way across he ocean he was discovered and when they reached America he was placed with a family that had the last name Johnson. He kept that name. I have always wanted to learn more about my family history and from where he came from and if he had siblings, cousins, etc.
I do not have the $ to pay for the information from Ancestry.com so I have come here to see If I can find anyone that could help me ?

noggin on 2014-04-16 15:46:09George Wendibank born Germany, any idea of his birth date or place of birth?. Approx when did he arrive in the USA ? Who was your father/ grandfather / great grandfather ? Where were they born Dates of birth / State /county/ spouses ? Are you saying he was was known by the surname name Johnson ?
You cannot do research from just a name.
