William and Jane TANNER BAXTER emigrated from Ireland with their first born son James (b. about 1839)to Scotland about 1841. Their children born in Dundonald, Ayr were: William 1842-1889; Ann 1843; Hugh 1848 and John 1851.

William jnr. married Janet STEEL and their daughter Mary was b.1862; she married Peter MCGUIRE and their children were William b.1880; Peter b.1881; Robert b.1884; Janet b.1886; Mary b. 1888; Jane b. 1892 and James b.1899.

Jane died in 1867 and William snr. had four more children with his housekeeper Margaret MCVEY (b. 1846 in Maybole, Ayr). Their children were Margaret b. 1868; (She married Henry MCDOWALL on May 31, 1887 in Dalry, Ayr. They emigrated to U.S. and lived in Illinois.) Janet b. 1871; Mary b. 1875 - 1958 (my paternal grandmother) and Ross b. 1878 -1884. William snr. died in 1885.

My grandmother Mary Baxter married Hugh MCCALLUM in 1900 and emigrated to Canada in 1912 settling in Burnaby, B.C.
