My ancestor is Eliza BRAND and she was born abt 1833 in Bermondsey, Surrey, England. She emigrated to Australia in 1857 along with her sister Letitia.
I am looking for Eliza's parents who are William BRAND and Sarah DENNIS.
One piece of information I have is that William was a "skinsplitter", which I presume relates to the tanning trade.
Any information would be gratefully received.

Your ancestor should appear on the 1841 and 1851 Census for England with her family.

Hi there allycat, many thanks for your help. I am still a newbie at this searching lark and I did what you said and thanks to a researcher doing work in Surrey I have been able to get back much further than I ever dreamed. I have landed up in Bedford now!
