Note; the above marriage was the only one I could find for a William harris to any pascoe between 1860-80. How sure are you that he married a Nancy?

by marylamb5 on 2013-11-28 11:19:31

In the 1861 cencus, Nancy was 13 years old,by 1871 she was married and was down as Annie, as well as in the 1881 cencus.

all born Camborne with the exception of Mary born Gwinear

It appears that Mary may be his second wife as Charles is 19 and Mary only 30 which would make her too young to be his mother.

I did find a baptism for Charles on Cornwall OPC site

Year 1831
Parish Or Reg District Camborne
Forename Charles
Surname HARRIS
Sex
Father Forename Richard
Mother Forename Alice

Notes

These are the other children for Richard & Alice that match the 1851 Census

1831 Camborne Charles HARRIS Richard Alice
1833 Camborne Matthew HARRIS Richard Alice
1834 Camborne John HARRIS Richard Alice
1837 Camborne Elizabeth Alice HARRIS Richard Alice

and I didn't find any Baptisms for children of Richard & Mary nor a marriage for Richard to Alice or Richard to mary.

I have taken note of the information you gave me, but my only concern is that none of the names have been passed down the family since. There is a Nicholas an Alfred, Samuel, Beatrice , Ethel and an Ada. Perhaps my family came from outside of Camborne? I do appreciate your help thankyou.

You say this is the right marriage so do you have the marriage cert ? If so what are their fathers names and occupations ? You should also find the ages for Annie and William Henry. If you do not have it I would suggest you get it before trying to go further back.

The 1861 Census that Asheppard found looks like the right family. In the 1871 census
William Harris is a blacksmith which ties in with 61 census.

There are several possibilities for the names they could be from Annie's Pascoe family.

There are several possibilities for Jane Pascoe above - there is a marriage to a Nicholas Pascoe 1839 Camborne and in 1841 Census they had a daughter Nany b1849 Camborne, Nany/Nanny was often used for Ann/Annie and often transcribed incorrectly as Nancy.

The only way to be sure is to definitely get a copy of the marriage and find out their fathers names and occupations
