Madden Family of Kilmeena, County Mayo, Ireland

Journal by maddenmoos

My grandfather is William Francis Madden (1877-1954) & he was born in Kilmeena, County Mayo on 21 Apr 1877. His Father was William Madden (a farmer) and his mother was named Mary Kelly. I researched a possible wedding date for them at around 1867. Only one of their sons', Michael Madden stayed, lived and died in Kilmeena. There is a tombstone in the local church yard with Michael Madden's name on it. He died in 1955. I met Michaels' son Eddie and his wife Bridie Madden in Kilmeena in December 1980 along with there grown-up children and their respective families. Eddie's son was Michael Joe Madden and the daughter Kathleen was married and her new last name was McIntyre. I am really looking for the older ancestors from both the Madden and Kelly families. Grace Kelly's of Monaco had her Kelly family origins near the town of Newport, which is just 3 miles North of Kilmeena. Perhaps there is a connection there, Iam not sure! Any help on the Madden-Kelly connections is very much appreciated.

Hi My mother was a Madden, the family came across from Ireland in the 1800`s no idea when, they came from the west coast, my sister was unable to get any further information on this line as documents were used for blacking out the windows during the war. A lot of Maddens settled in the Glasgow area, if that helps, there was a lot of migration happening with agricultural workers and some of the areas you may find them is in the borders and dundee area in scotland hope this may help.
