josh hemphill was born to maggie hemphill in chester s.c. 1892 (blackstock) community, i have yet to find out who josh's father was. the hemphills in my line were said to have come from the west virginia area in the early 1800's. josh was married to mary ellen douglas around 1920, the family live in indian land s.c. in lancaster county there were several children born to this union, johnie mae, james lorrie, john andy, henrietta lucille, maggie jane, irene, edna, alberta, and josh jr. josh had one brother levi whom married a hood.josh was a life long member of macedonia baptist church, he worked as a farmer for his entire life. his wife mary died in rockhill, s.c. in 1938, he then married joulsy duncan. josh died in 1986
