Mary HINDMARSH, granddaughter of Sir John Hindmarsh, 1st governor of South Australia, buried Woodville NZ
Mary Susan Hindmarsh (1862-1937) was born in Norwood, Adelaide, 1 of at least 6 children of John Hindmarsh (1820-1903) & his 1st wife, Mary Long (1824-1871) who married in Bloomsbury, London on 8 Dec 1853. Her father left the Royal Naval College to go to Adelaide with his parents, returned to England with his mother in 1841 but did not rejoin the navy. Instead he entered the Middle Temple and became a barrister. He returned to South Australia in 1855 and later moved to Napier where he died in 1903. Her mother died in South Australia and her father next married Matilda Drew Leworthy (1829–1905) in 1872.
* Her brother was Alfred Humphrey Hindmarsh (1860-1918), Lawyer, trade unionist and politician of New Zealand. He was educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide, and trained as a lawyer in a Dunedin law firm. In 1891 he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in Christchurch. Shortly afterwards he moved to Wellington where, on 3 Oct 1892, he married Winifred Taylor. He was active in the Wellington labour movement, foundation president of the Workers' Educational Association, secretary of the Wellington Socialist Education League, president of the Wellington branch of the Federated Seamen's Union.
* Mary's grandfather was Sir John Hindmarsh (1785-1860). Born in Kent, he sailed in the "Buffalo" with his family in 1836 and within a few days began the survey of Adelaide. He became the first governor of South Australia. He was knighted in August 1851 and promoted rear admiral. He moved to London where he died on 29 July 1860. A son, John Hindmarsh jnr (1820-1903), left the Royal Naval College to go to Adelaide with his parents, returned to England with his mother in 1841 but did not rejoin the navy. Instead he entered the Middle Temple and became a barrister. He returned to South Australia in 1855 and later moved to Napier, New Zealand, where he died in 1903.
* A daughter, Susan Hindmarsh became the second wife of Captain John Ellis, a wealthy South Australian pastoralist,
Mary Susan Hindmarsh married Samuel Bolton in St John's Church, Napier on 27 April 1881, by Dr the Right Rev Edward Craig Stuart, D.D. Lord Bishop of Waiapu (1827-1917), perhaps why their first son has Stuart as a middle name, in a double wedding with her sister Florence Eliza Hindmarsh (1856-1934) who married Edward Gilbertson.

married Albert Edwin Joseph (Westmoreland) Beetham (1871-1962) in 1904. Albert was 1 of 12 children of Joseph Westmoreland (1844-1938) & Julia Ann Beck (1851-1925). He changed his name from 11 June 1901 .. Pahiatua Herald CHANGE OF NAME. Public Notice is hereby given that Albert Edwin Joseph Westmoreland, of Clifton, Mangatainoka, has changed his name as from the date hereof and will be known in future as Albert Beetham.

married Eileen Margaret Shute (1897-) in St Paul's Cathedral, Wellington in 1920. she was a daughter of Deane Oxford Shute & Charlotte Frederica Georgina Sweney. 2 known siblings were, Rona Irene & Berthon Deane. He petitioned for divorce 1927, finally granted 1929. She was in Sydney in 1930.

- his parents were Norman Beetham & Alice Mary Wardell
- his brother Norman married Muriel`s sister Ethel
- he died in 1964 and was cremated at Kelvin Grove
- Muriel died 25-8-1964 (4 months before Harold)
- she too was living in Manuka St and was cremated at Palmerston North

married Norman Trevor Beaumont Wardell Beetham (1882-1968) in 1912. His parents were Norman Beetham & Alice Mary Wardell. His brother Harold married Ethel`s sister Muriel
He was living at 118 Essex St Masterton and died in Masterton Hospital
Ethel died 3 years later. She was living at 1A Coddington Cres, Masterton. They are buried at Archer Street
