MAYNARD SAVAGE research, Kent England to Adelaide Australia in 1840

Journal by Maynard89

Hi All,

I am a great great great great grandson of Henry Maynard Savage who arrived in Adelaide, Australia in 1840 from England, with his parents and a few siblings.

His mother's first husband was apparently Thomas Maynard (m.1790), but she was married again five year later to a John Savage. We are not sure who is the father of Henry Maynard Savage. And we have very little info about Thomas Maynard (and why she re-married after him, possibly death), or Henry for that matter.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Jake

Hi Jake
Don't know how far you have got with research on Henry Maynard Savage b.1795 since your post but he crops up in my tree (1st cousin 6 times removed!) and I may be able to give you a bit more information regarding his English ancestors.
As you know Henry Maynard's mother was Elizabeth Savage born Durtnall. A daughter of her first marriage (to Thomas Maynard) was Maria who is my great great great grandmother.
Bit confused regarding your information that Henry Maynard came to Australia with his parents. His mother, Elizabeth is shown in the 1851 census as living in Yalding Kent England with her relatives Richard and Elizabeth Bull. Maybe she returned to England later in her life? She was 81 years old at the census.
Let me know if I can help at all.
Best wishes Tim Goldsmith born and bred an Englishman currently in lockdown!!
