McGovern Family from Sligo, Ireland
I'm interested in any information about Stephen McGovern, father of Edward Baslow McGovern who I've been told was born in Gibraltar in 1799. Edward married Elizabeth Shannon in 1821 in Sligo, had one child, Hugh. After Elizabeth's death, Edward married Margaret Stanley and had 4 children in Sligo.
Hugh married Anne Regan and fathered several children (including my gggrandfather Edward McGovern) after they had emigrated to Australia.

Hello Glynne,
My ggg grandfather was Edward Baslow McGovern m Elizabeth Shannon & my g grandfather was Hubert McGovern m Ann Brady, Hubert was one of 11 children & had a brother Edward b17-1 1843 at " Clifford", Cockfighter Creek now named Warkworth. Edward m Agnes L Brotherwood. I was in Gibraltar last year but couldn't find out anything. Stephen & Mary McGovern were Edward Baslow's parents.I can give you info on the McGovern clan up to Stephen but thats where it stops. My mother was the daughter of James Shannon McGovern of Narrabri NSW. I was told Hugh McGovern & Ann Regan came to Australia from London 1841 with their daughter Mary Jane who was born in Sligo. Mary Jane m William Griffin I don't know the name of the ship they came on. Hugh is buried on the Boomi & I was recently there, his grave just has an iron rail around it. Interested to know if this is your kin.

Hi Gez, I'm fairly sure we haven't met before and I'd love to correspond with you so I'll send my e-mail address to you. I've got a couple of contacts on this branch, but most of them are descendants of Agnes Brotherwood and her liasons with John Avery and James Kelly.
Edward and Agnes had daughter Ada who married James Moore and had son Harold James Moore who is my paternal grandfather

Hey girls, Patrice here (Agnes' other g-g-grand-daughter). Still looking for my G-grandmother Minnie (Edith Victoria). P.
Hi Patrice --- thankyou for the info you sent to my e-mail address.
I can't remember -- did I send you the newspaper article I found on Agnes McGovern being commtted to trial in 1871 for manslaughter --- the Attorney General decided not to prosecute. Glynne
HI Glynne & Gez
I have just found this site, after googling Edward Baslow McGovern today.
Gez, like you, I am descended from Edward's grandson Hubert through his son Charles Hubert. Charles was my direct line male great grandfather.
My family research had only gove back to Edward, so already you have given us another generation.
I would love to heave from you.
Carin
I'm sending you my e-mail address so we can correspond through that --- I have a public tree on ancestry.com but I've got more on personal file om home computer.
