OBITUARY
MR. W. J. McILROY.
Mr. William John McIlroy died at the Dromana Bush Nursing Hospital on May 6, aged 92 years. He was probably the oldest resident of the district.
He was an orchardist at Red Hill for 72 years. He came to Victoria from the North of Ireland with his parents when a young man. He leaves eight sons and three daughters. His wife predeceased him, and his son Robert made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War.
The funeral took place in the Dromana Cemetery on Sunday, the cortege moving from the Methodist Church, where a service was conducted by the Rev. L. Coulthard assisted by the Rev. Norton Smith. The Rev. Coulthard paid a tribute to the late Mr. Mcllroy, saying that he had shown many how to live a Christian life while he himself had shown how to die a Christian death.
An address on the life of Mr. Mcllroy was given by the Rev. D. J. Flockhart, who said that he had known Mr. McIlroy for 55 years. When drawing up the circuit preacher's plans he had often put Mr. McIIlroy down to preach as many as three times on one Sunday. He had never grumbled, but had cheerfully ridden on horseback to the services.
The casket was carried by six of his sons. The pall-bearers were:
Messrs. L. Davey, C. Prossor, R. Trewin, F. McIlroy and L. McIlroy. The burial service was read by the Rev. L. Couthard assisted by the Rev. Norton Smith.
Mr. Hector Gamble had charge of the funeral arrangements.
