Monteith in Wigtownshire, Scotland migrated to Grant Co., Wisconsin

Journal by slynna33

Hi there,

I just started began researching my family line. My GGrandfather is James Earl Monteith from Grant co., Wisconsin. I have hit a brick wall with Andrew Moneith B- Abt. 2/1786 Find a Grave says Ireland but I believe it's Scotland. he died 19 May 1878 in Wisconsin. He married Isabella Hendry (henry) B- 17 Aug 1796 D-7 Mar 1891. I am looking for any additional information on this family line.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I did some research on this and I could not find any ancestors for Andrew. I did notice a variation in the last name as Monteath, Montieth, Montooth. I do think that you're right that he was born in Scotland and not Ireland. Andrew and Isabelle marred 28 April 1816 and I found that they have eleven children, maybe more. All of this information I found from Find A Grave and Scotland, Select Births. There is an on-line blog of Monteiths, https://me-here-right-now-blogspot.com and it should up. It offers a lot of info on the Andrew Monteith's family and children. Their are three children that served in the Civil War. Good luck.
