My ADKINS Brick Wall

Journal by SLKetch51

My paternal granny was Mary Este Adkins / Bohannon. She used the Bohannon name but Adkins was the name on her delayed birth certificate as well as her marriage license. She married John Haskell Allen. She was born April 7, 1894 in the Dry Valley section of Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee.

Guy Meigs Bohannon was her biological. I don't believe he and Canzade ever married.

My brick wall is her Mother, Canzade Adkins, 1861 - 1901, Cookeville, TN. (Cansade, Cansada, Sadie, spelled 'Canzade' on her gravestone.)

Her Mother was Martha Adkins. Her father I can not find. I believe he was a preacher.

Canzade had other children, Ardella, Casto Cleo and Minis all used the Adkins name. There was a young man named Cleveland Adkins living with my grandparents and Martha in the Dry Valley 1910 census and he is referred to as 'brother in law' to my grandad Allen, (head of household). I have found no other referrence to Cleveland.

Who Canzade's father and her grandparents are is a mystery! I have found a lot of matched DNA with Adkins 'cousin's but none have Canzade in their family trees. I have been searching for Canzade for twenty years!
