Hi Elaine,
There is a Grace Constance FRENCH (Operator)living with a Mary Constance FRENCH (Home Duties) and Albert FRENCH (Draper) of 51 Woornack Road, Oakleigh in the 1936>Henty>Oakleigh Victorian Census, same again in 1937. The fact that Grace was working and Mary is doing HD indicates to me that Mary is the mother and Albert was the father.
I found where a Grace Constance FRENCH b.4 Jan 1912 in NSW married 1 Aug 1942 to John Redford LYNCH in Melbourne. John died in Brisbane 19 June 1990. At the time this information was listed, Grace was still alive. She would be coming up to 100 years old if she is still alive today. After they married, they lived at Watt Ave, Pascoe Vale.
I also checked "Gladys" and there was a Gladys Margaret FRENCH (machinist) living at 58 Power St Hawthorn in the 1936>Kooyong>Hawthorn. This person is not living with any other person with the name FRENCH.

Thank you for this info. I'll try to follow it up. The age of Gladys French would tally as she was identified as being 21 years old when I was born.
With the Grace French you mentioned that would also qualify wouldn't it? Possible scenario young daughter gets pregnant, baby left at St Joseph's Foundling Home, mother returns to live with her parents
Hi,
Just question-as Im searching for French-wondered if you had heard of Hattie Belle French -Windhall Vt.??she was my gram Slade. Her dad Nelson W French/mom Lydia Styles.???Thanks Janet
Sorry SierraLee until a few years ago I had no idea of who my mother was. I know nothing of her or her family which is why I posted here. Should you come up with any info I'd love to here from you again.
The shop in Woornack Rd, where Albert French had his drapery is still there. It is a clock repair shop now. That part of town comes under Carnegie now.
The reason I mention it is you may want to check land titles and transfers they often disclose a lot of information as to where people go and for how long they owned a property or if he died and the business went into probate.
