Yes, this could be a clue, it could be the maiden name of his mother,
or it could be the name of his father, or it could be the name from a
relative,..... or could be a name that his mother liked...

I suggest looking for a birth certificate, or ask your relatives if anyone knows the names of your Grandparents. Look for your father's obit and see if his parents names are mentioned.

Another possibility is found in our STOUT family where Robert and Anna had a son, Thomas Duncan McGregor STOUT. This son was apparently named after a family friend, Thomas Duncan MCGREGOR.

Another example in my mother's family is of a girl named Lillie Vyner LIVINGSTON. Upon reading a book written about a southern sheep run, I found the manager of the run where Lillie's father worked was named Philip VYNER, hence the middle name.
