I live in Trinidad, in the West Indies. My maternal grandfather was born in Lyon, France. His name was Charles Joseph BOUCARUT. I understand that he had at least two brothers and one sister. My grandfather would have been born about 1879 in Lyon but moved to Martinique in the West Indies as a small boy with his family. His father's name was (I believe) was Leon Charles BOUCARUT. I do not know his mother's name. One of my mother's elder brothers visited the family in Lyon some time in the 1960s. He was a professional musician - he played the double bass. My grandfather's brothers were in the French Navy and both visited Trinidad whilst in the navy. I would really like to learn a little about my grandfather's relatives and possibly communicate with them before I get much oder. jaggers

I was born in Trinidad and have been trying for some time now to find the name of my grandmother's mother. All I know about her is that her surname was Boucarut. I have a DNA match with a Boucarut so I contacted him to see if he knew anything about my great grandmother. All he could tell me was that his grandfather, Charles Joseph Boucarut, was born in Lyon 1879 and moved to Martinique as a child. He also said he had a brother who joined the French Navy.
I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about my great grandmother. She had a child with Thomas Ellis Grell (known as Ellis) in 1898. That child was my grandmother, Olive. I don't think her father was a very responsible person because he already had two other children with one (or possibly two) other women, before having a child with my great grandmother. This relationship didn't last long because Ellis had yet another child with another woman when my grandmother was only seven. As I understand it, my great grandmother died quite young when my grandmother was still a child and went to live with her paternal grandmother.
I would love to know about my great grandmother. My grandmother was a very petite woman, sweet, kind and gentle and I can only assume her lovely personality came from her mother.
