My grandfater, Ernest James CHARTERIS was a New Zealander who came on a working holiday to Australia where he Married RUBY HANSON and my father James Seddon CHARTERIS was born in Kalgoorlie, returning to NZ when he was 3 months old after they won 42 guineas on Blue Spek at the Melbourne Cup. They also had Arthur, Bruce and Floss.
Dad returned to Australia in 1926 and married Angela May GLASS and i am their fourth child, so I'm Australian. We are having a family reunion at easter in NZ so trying to get as far back in the family tree as possible.
Have got as far back as James Charteris born 1786 who married Helen Bell. I am stuck at this point.

Yes, I think Ernest James charteris was born in NZ. He was my grandfather, father of my dad, James Seddon Charteris.
I have heaps of NZ rellies, from Auntie Floss and from Uncle Bruce. My siblings are all Australian.

SharonGervasi on 2020-10-09 11:42:24So frustrating. I have the entire main lineage from 166 to early 1600's where I then have family lineage for the three brothers from there. I also descend from James Charteris 1786 married to Helen. I have found his parents, John 1758-1832 married to Jane Bryden 1766-1831 through the geni tree (but not historically confirmed). I cannot however trace where our family fits in!! If you send your email address I can send you the document showing the tree data I have (but not including us). I now live in Western Australia and was at the reunion in Wanganui way back in the dark ages :)
