The source of all the information contained within this journal comes from a variety of people, in particular Graham Shirra who supplied a great deal, and also Don Webber (cousin of my grandmother) and Ethel Voss. Other sources are: NSW and QLD BDM Indexes, family records and oral history, Parish Records in Germany, the Viermuenden Church Book, and the IGI from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Much more information is also available to descendants upon request.

Hi,
This is a great record. I too am a descendant of Elizabeth Orth (Emily Webber was my great grandmother). I have a number of documents pertaining to the family's time in Australia (naturalisation etc) that were researched by my uncle. I am very interested in finding more records, especially photographs and records that may give information about why some children left and others did not.
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks,
Katie Donnelly
Hi,
My name is Damien Merry and I was hoping you could fill me in on my Family History. My Grandfather was born at Merrydale in Ashford in 1917 to Florence Rhodes- Merry . I would so love to hear from you.
Looking forward to hearing from you
Damien Merry
Hi again, just wanted to add that Elsie Lousia Rhodes Merry was my Grandfathers aunty
Hi Alison, very interesting website. The reason I am especially interested is that a John Orth, Hessian soldier, is thought to have settled in Quebec about 1796 and become the progenitor of the large Horth family who still live there. This could be proved by Y-DNA testing. A member of the Quebec family has been tested. See http://horthdna.tribalpages.com. Do you know if any Orth has been DNA tested?
Sincerely, Tom Horth
Dear Tom, Hi. Cannot answer if any Orth has been DNA tested. Would like to 'read' about your HORTH ancestors. Thank you.
Hi Alison, just now saw your response to my previous post. My Horth family and the Qu?bec Horth family are now both on Ancestry's free WorldConnect website. My family has been shown by DNA testing to be closely related to the English Horth family, and I think I've worked out the exact connection. The Qu?bec Horths have been shown by DNA testing not to be closely related to the English Horths. There is some limited documentary evidence that suggests that they are descended from the Oths of Hessen, and DNA evidence could either affirm or deny that, if we could find an Orth willing to be tested. The necessary Y-DNA test costs US$ 170 or less, and only males can be Y tested.
Best wishes, Tom Horth
