My picture of a family heirloom

Journal by allycat

Dear Members, Below is a .jpg file of a photograph of a pair of earrings and matching brooch given to Kitty SEAR 1815-1868 in 1838 at her marriage in Steeple Claydon, Buckinghamshire, England by her husband-to-be Thomas Roads MERRY 1815-1893. This couple were my great great great grandparents.

This lovely photograph surfaced prior to a family reunion in Easter this year. The history of the jewellery is that it passed onto Kitty's eldest daughter, Anne, who then gave it to her sister, Florence. Florence sent it to her niece in Australia in 1939 where it lay in a draw for 39 years.

You just never know what you will turn up when you research your family tree. I'm very happy to have this photograph and thought I'd share it with you. The jewellery is of a style telling of a bygone era.

NB: More information on the Roads Family of Buckinghamshire can be found at the rootsweb world connect project of Heather Rohrer. Just follow the links in the surname wiki pages.

Regards,
Alison.
