Newells Virginia/Kentucky area 1700-1800's
We are doing family research. We have traced our line back to James Newell and Mary Drake.
Our lineage goes as follows:
Duane Newell Kansas
Don Newell 04/27/1924 Kansas
Harry Newell 11/24/1901 Kansas
Richard Raleigh "Doc" Newell 01/16/1844 served in the Civil War, captured and was at Andersonvile Prison, came to Kansas after the war
Dr. Hardin Bruce Newell/Cyrene Jane Kelly 08/22/1815 Kentucky
Landy G. Newell 07/29/1784 Virginia
John Newell 1752 VIrginia and Jane Bell
James Newell and Mary Drake Ireland.
But we have a lot of blanks to fill in. Concerning John and Jane who both died in 1735 and a Landon Newll and Mary / Marageret (Covill?) who took over the family of 4 children: John M, b 1780, Leannah or Leanner b 1781, Anne b 1782, Landon b 07/29/1784, after Landon and Mary took over the 4 orphans, then Jessie Chapel was born 1786

DO YOU HAVE THE 4 CHILDREN'S NAMES? WE ARE TRYING TO FIND DECENDENTS OF A SAMUEL COVIL/COVILL/COVEL. HE FOUGHT IN AMERICAN REVOLUTION FOR THE BRITSH, WAS TRANSPORTED TO NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA. HE WAS GIVEN A LAND GRANT AFTER THE WAR, AND NEVER CLAIMED IT. TRYING TO FIND OUT IF HE WENT BACK TO NC WHERE HE WAS FIGHTING OR HOME???
Fermanagh, Ireland ? is where we think Mary Covill's father James was born and his wife Ann Vance. We have no year's and no other children listed but we have not been searching that route. Mary or Margaret Covil was married to Landon Newell. He was born 1759.
The children's names were:
Anne Newell b 1782 d 1815
John M Newell b 1780
Landon Newell b. 07/29/1874 d 1871
Leannah Newell b 1781 d. 1/5 either 1851 or 1871
I too have been researching John Newell from Va. to N.C. My g.g.Grandfather was John Newell from Mecklenburg-Union, N.C.to Lancaster County, S.C. area. He named his daughter Lee Anna Newell also John [my g.g.] was born in 1830. I believe he is a descendent of John Newell from Virginia. Send me some other info if you will.
