If the bride was aboriginal do they state that on the marriage certificate?

Elizabeth Lewis Daughter of Mary Ann Lewis nee
Roberts & Richard Lewis was married to a Jacob Foster in 1843. Seen her marriage certificate and death certificate both showing her birth parents and her husbands name in both certificates

The man who has started this whole Aboriginal thing doesn't even appear to be related to Mary Roberts. His Elizabeth Lewis had different parents, and he has based the aboriginality on the marriage affidavits because it says mary roberts is a native of the colony, which only means she was a white woman born into the colony, it doesn't mean a native aboriginal lol lol I'm going to the library tomorrow to look up the early church records (marriage and deaths) on the microfilm to see the facts for myself. One thing is for sure, no one is saying he isn't an aboriginal, but what seems clear is he's not a relation to mary Roberts or her daughter Elizabeth.

Mary Roberts was not an Aboriginal.

thank yuo that clears up lots of things for me Kirsty mentioned she could be when we first started Kirsty was a relative of Louisa Smith (*my relative`s) brother James. She has also checked Steve Pryor`s claims but has all the birth and death certificates also marriage & they did not add up.

The confusion all started from the marriage affidavits where mary is listed as native of the colony, and some people think that means a native aboriginal. it actually just means she was born in the British Colony, and cosidering mary is listed in the 1811 convict muster as a child, i highly doubt she was an aboriginal.

I'm a descendent of Richard and Mary LEWIS. Several of their descendent have tried to trace Mary's parents to no avail. Dr Smee records her as 1 of 12 of the first 2000 Colonial Born that he could not identify the parents.

My best guess is she was an illegitimate child born to one of the women on the Mary Ann arriving 21/09/1791, and fathered by one of the Mary Ann's sailors. Mary Ann ROBERTS is recorded as been born both in 1791 and 1792. I think this is confusion maybe based around birth and baptism.

By a process of elimination the two likely women are Mary STUBBINS and Mart POTTER (and the betting on STUBBINS as she is recorded of been of poor character (1790's colonial code for a drunk) - "The magistrate found that both women were well known in the colony for improper conduct").

The change of family name to ROBERTS may have been due to been abandoned and informally adopted by the ROBERTS family. Which one?

If you know better, pray tell.
