... OLSEN - At the Dannevirke Hospital, on November 29th, Johanna, the beloved wife of Ole Olsen, of South Norsewood, and sister of pastor Ries; aged 35
... It is with deep regret that we today have to record the death of Mrs Ole Olsen, which took place at the hospital early yesterday morning. Mrs Olsen, who was a daughter of Mrs Ries, of Awariki, and a sister of Pastor Ries, entered the hospital on Monday last, when it was found necessary to perform an operation which revealed such a serious condition of affairs that little hope could be entertained of her ultimate recovery, a position which came as a great surprise to her husband and friends. Mrs Olsen came out to New Zealand with Pastor Ries in 1891, and eventually married Mr O. Olsen in 1895. Since then she has lived with her husband at their place at South Norsewood, known as Hill Top Farm. Deceased always took a very active part in church and mission work, as well as being a prominent supporter of the local Sunday School, and her death will be keenly felt in the religious circles of Norsewood. In addition to her husband and the aboved named relations, the late Mrs Olsen leaves three sisters: Mrs A. N. Bertsen of Waipatiki, Mrs Peter Berntsen of Awariki and Miss Ries of South Norsewood.
Bush Advocate, 1 December 1908 The funeral of the late Mrs Ole Olsen took place at the local cemetery at 1 o'clock this afternoon, and was attended by a large number of Scandinavians from Norsewood, Makotuku and the surrounding Scandinavian settlements. The service in the Lutheran Church, which was largely attended, was conducted by Pasters Petersen (Norsewood) and Christiansen (Palmerston North).
