Hi Diane,
Here in N.Z.there are many Maori who a named Shepherd.
I once had one working for me in the King Country,South of Te Kuiti.

I have a peace of paper that says a Elizabeth Shepherd(1763-1837)married Thomas Coombe(1768-1834).They had;
(1)Anne(1793-,(2)William(1795-1866)married Hannah Mellish(1792- 1868),(3)Mary(1798-1823),(4)Thomas (1799-),(5)Abraham(1803-1804).

William & Hannah had;
(1)Francis,1823-1890.
(2)Mary Coombe, 1826 - 1890=John Kelly 1807 - 1883.
(3)William 1828.
(4)Thomas,1830 - 1833.
(5)Tommy Mellish,1833 -.
(6)Eliza,18 ?.- 1910,married William Baker,1828 - 1908.
(7)Charles Coombe 1865 - 1941.married Ellen Blades,1862 - 1926.
(8)Phyllis Coombe,1891 - 1965,married William Owen Knight,they had;
Molly Osborn,Patricia Owen.
