NOTES
Funeral of daughter Margaret Ellen
29 March 1893 ... A very large gathering of friends from all parts of the country formed the funeral procession to-day of the late margaret Ellen Leddy, daughter of Mr Daniel Leddy, of Wakanui. The deceased was only sixteen years of age, was a most promising young woman and a much beloved member of her family. Requiem mass was celebrate in the church of the Holy Name by Very Rev Father O'Donnell, and there was a large congregation at the service. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the whole district in their loss.
Funeral of daughter Mary Ann Leddy 11 Dec 1893 ... One of the largest funerals ever seen in Ashburton took place yesterday, the occasion being the burial of the late Miss Mary Ann Leddy, the daughter of Mr Daniel Leddy of Wakanui. About nine o'clock the hearse left Ashgrove, Mr Leddy's residence, followed by about forty or fifty vehicles; but by the time the procession reached the Ashburton Catholic Church, there must have been quite ninety carriages and about forty persons riding taking part. Arrived at the church, a funeral sermon was preached by the Rev Father O'Donnell, the church being crowded. About one o'clock the procession, which was then greatly increased by friends from the church, made its way to the cemetery where a large assemblage of friends were present to pay their last token of respect to the deceased. Father O'Donnell conducted the funeral service. Considerable sympathy was expressed with the bereaved parents in their sad loss, this being the third daughter the parents have lost within two years and that too, just as each had reached womanhood

NOTES
