MISSION TO THE BLIND.
The hon. organising secretary of the Mission to the Blind tells the story of Mr.
Robert Byers, who caused the founding of the mission. For 34 years Mr Byers was in a little bedroom in a suburb of Melbourne, paralysed and for much of the time he was blind, deaf, and otherwise afflicted. In 1911 he was informed of the pitiful condition of the blind in heathen countries, and he resolved to help them.
He began by asking a few friends for 6d. a year as a contribution for the purpose.
This little company grew, and in October, 1918, it w as formed into tho Mission of the Blind in Heathen Lands. During the last seven years Mr Byers raised £4,280. The
income last year was £1,100, derived from 1,500 contributors. The money is used in
supporting eight evangelists, five Bible-women, seven teachers, and 80 children
Mr Byers died in March.
